Use This Only For Small-Pet Jet Ferry Planning

Tokai Kisen’s Japanese pet guidance says jet ferries allow only pets that fit in a 45cm cage or basket, and that large pets cannot board. This is the key difference from a large passenger ship, where Tokai Kisen lists pet-room procedure separately.

If your pet cannot fit fully and calmly inside the required container, the high-speed jet ferry should not be your assumed route. Check Tokai Kisen before booking, and compare a large passenger ship or another plan instead of trying to solve the problem at the counter.

Measure The Carrier Before Booking

Tokai Kisen’s English FAQ says the pet must be in a cage or carry-on with sides no longer than 45 cm, and that the pet’s face and other body parts must not be visible. The Japanese pet page also says the cage or basket must contain the pet’s full body.

Measure the actual carrier as used, not just the size printed on a product listing. Soft carriers can bulge, handles can add shape, and an open or loose bag is not the same as a closed carrier. Tokai Kisen also cautions that bags that do not close at the opening cannot be accepted.

Tell Tokai Kisen Before Travel

Tokai Kisen asks travelers to tell the customer center the pet type, number of pets and people, and size at reservation time. For internet reservations, it asks travelers to email the reservation number, name, pet type, number of pets and people, and size.

That notification is especially important for jet ferries because the ship type leaves less room for interpretation. Keep the answer with your reservation details so the counter step is based on current guidance rather than memory.

Plan The Pet Ticket And Counter Step

Tokai Kisen’s pet page says travelers should present the passenger ticket at the counter, state the destination, and purchase the pet ticket. Its English carry-on baggage page says charged baggage cannot be brought aboard a passenger ship without a baggage ticket and that tickets should be purchased at the ticket window before boarding.

Do not use a copied fare table from an old article or screenshot. Pet-ticket fees and accepted procedure should be checked on the official page or at the counter for the travel date.

Protect The 30-Minute Jet Ferry Buffer

Tokai Kisen’s FAQ recommends arriving about 30 minutes before departure for high-speed jet ferries. Its boarding-flow page says to complete boarding procedure early and warns that a reservation may be forfeited if boarding procedure is not completed 15 minutes before departure.

A pet carrier adds friction even when everything is compliant. Build time for ticket-counter handling, carrier confirmation, boarding-card work, restroom breaks, and moving from the terminal area to the gate without rushing the pet or other passengers.

Confirm Operation Status And Port

Tokai Kisen’s operation-status page is the live official source for Oshima operation status, port decisions, conditional operation, cancellation, and warnings. It tells users to refresh before checking and says high-speed jet ferry decisions can appear around 06:00.

Oshima Tourism Association says Izu Oshima uses Okada Port in the north and Motomachi Port in the central area depending on same-day sea conditions, and that the departure port may not be known until the day. Check the port before leaving lodging or a waiting base, especially if you are carrying a pet, luggage, and cash for local transport.

Do Not Assume Island Transport Pet Rules

Oshima Tourism Association says Oshima has buses, taxis, rental cars, rental bikes, and rental bicycles, and that Oshima Bus should be contacted for details. Oshima Bus publishes current timetables, maps, fare information, and riding guidance; when checked, the route-bus timetable period shown was July 1, 2026 to September 30, 2026.

Oshima Bus’s FAQ says Suica, PASMO, and other transportation IC cards are not accepted, while cash or PayPay can be used. Those payment facts do not prove pet acceptance. If you need to move a pet carrier by bus or taxi, confirm current rules directly with the operator before relying on that connection.
