Confirm The Actual Arrival Port

Do not assume the ship will arrive at the port you pictured when you booked. Tokai Kisen’s English FAQ says arrival ports can be checked by round-trip routes while aboard ship. Tokai Kisen’s operation-status page is also the official live source for operation status, port decisions, conditional operation, cancellation, and warnings.

Oshima Tourism Association says Izu Oshima uses Okada Port in the north and Motomachi Port in the central area depending on same-day sea conditions. Izu Oshima Navi similarly explains that the two main ports are used according to wave and wind conditions. Your lodging transfer should start from the port that is actually used that day.

Finish The Pet Procedure Before Rushing Off

Tokai Kisen’s pet guidance says pets must be in a cage or basket no more than 45cm per side, with the pet’s face and body kept inside. Its English FAQ says pets should be in a cage or carry-on with sides no longer than 45 cm and placed in a designated area as instructed by crew.

Large ships have pet rooms, and Tokai Kisen says travelers should complete the onboard information-desk procedure after boarding. On arrival, keep the carrier closed while moving from ship to terminal, collecting luggage, and finding the onward route. The arrival transfer is easier when the pet rule is still being followed.

Match The Port To The Lodging Area

Oshima Tourism Association’s accommodation page organizes lodging by island area and notes that Okada Port is in the north while Motomachi Port is in the central area. That matters after arrival: the closest port to your lodging may not be the port used by your ferry.

Before travel, save your lodging name, area, phone number, check-in window, and pet conditions. If your actual arrival port differs from the expected one, tell lodging before you start moving, especially if pickup, luggage holding, dinner time, or check-in deadline is involved.

Use Oshima Bus Only When The Details Fit

Izu Oshima Navi points travelers to Oshima Bus for latest timetable details and notes that route buses connect island locations. Oshima Bus’s own route-bus page publishes timetables, maps, fare information, riding guidance, and luggage information; when checked, the timetable period shown was July 1, 2026 to September 30, 2026.

For pets, keep the rule narrow. Oshima Bus’s FAQ says pets may be brought only if they are small breeds and inside a cage. It also says Suica, PASMO, and other transportation IC cards are not accepted, while cash or PayPay can be used. If the pet, luggage, timing, or payment does not fit, do not force the bus plan.

Use Taxi Backup By Phone

Oshima Tourism Association says taxis do not cruise, night service is very limited, most taxis wait at ports or the airport, and travelers should inquire by phone. That makes taxi backup useful after arrival, but not automatic.

When calling, state the arrival port, lodging name, pet, carrier size, luggage, passenger count, and desired pickup point. Ask directly whether the pet in that carrier can be accepted. If the ferry arrival or port changes, call again rather than assuming the original taxi plan still works.

Protect Check-In And Luggage Timing

Arrival with a pet usually has more friction than arrival with a backpack. You may need time to leave the ship, retrieve luggage, keep the carrier closed, find the bus stop or taxi meeting point, and contact lodging.

Ask lodging about check-in time, pet rules, luggage holding, late arrival, and whether they can advise on transfer from Motomachi Port or Okada Port. Do not treat a general pet-friendly listing as permission for every pet, carrier, room type, or late arrival.
