Board Only After The Direction Is Clear

Tokai Kisen’s operation-status page says Oshima uses Motomachi Port and Okada Port, and that arrival and departure ports may differ. Its FAQ says arrival ports can be checked while aboard ship. Izu Oshima Navi explains that the two main ports are used depending on waves and wind.

Before stepping onto the bus, know the direction you are trying to go. If you must confirm with the driver, keep the question short: destination name, not the full ferry disruption story. Long explanations at the door can block boarding for everyone behind you.

Make Yourself Small Before Stepping In

Do not open the carrier at the bus door to calm the pet or show the driver. If the driver or staff needs to confirm something, follow their instruction while keeping the pet contained and away from the door path.

Prepare Payment Before The Door

Oshima Bus’s FAQ says Suica and PASMO are not accepted, and route-bus payment is cash or PayPay. It also says on-bus exchange is limited to 50 to 500 yen coins and 1,000 yen bills.

Payment readiness is part of boarding etiquette. Do not stand in the door searching every pocket while holding a carrier and luggage. If you are using PayPay, protect enough phone battery for payment, destination checks, lodging contact, and a fallback call.

Move Away From The Door And Aisle

Once aboard, the priority is not to find the perfect place. It is to stop blocking the entrance, aisle, fare area, and other passengers. Follow the driver’s instructions about where to stand or place luggage.

If the bus is crowded, keep the carrier close and luggage vertical or compact where instructed. Do not spread bags across seats or the aisle. If the driver indicates that boarding is not practical with your luggage or pet setup, step back and reassess instead of arguing at the door.

After boarding, your next useful message to lodging or pickup contact should be short: bus direction, where you expect to get off, pet in carrier, and when you will update again.

JMA provides English warnings and advisories, and its forecast information includes weather, winds, coastal ocean waves, temperatures, and precipitation probability. If weather is making travel harder, preserve battery and wait to send details until you have a safe stopping point.
