Confirm The Stop Before You Settle

Tokai Kisen’s operation-status page says Oshima uses Motomachi Port and Okada Port, and that arrival and departure ports may differ. Its FAQ says arrival ports can be checked while aboard ship. Izu Oshima Navi explains that the two main ports are used depending on waves and wind.

Before you settle into a waiting position, confirm the actual port and the direction you need. A comfortable corner is not helpful if it is for the wrong route, blocks a door, or makes you hard for staff or the driver to see.

Leave Space For The Bus First

A bus stop is a working transport space. Stand where you are visible, but not where the bus door, road edge, traffic path, shelter entrance, terminal door, luggage flow, or other passengers need to move.

If there is no obvious safe waiting point, choose a compact spot near the stop rather than directly in the line of movement. Be ready to move when the bus approaches or when staff gives instructions.

Keep The Carrier Closed

Tokai Kisen’s FAQ says pets must be inside an acceptable cage or carry-on with no face or body parts visible. Its Japanese pet page says open bags cannot be accepted. Oshima Bus’s FAQ says small pets may ride only if inside a cage.

That rule shapes your waiting behavior. Keep the carrier closed, level, and close to your body or luggage. Do not place it where wheels, doors, umbrellas, or other passengers can hit it. If your pet needs attention, first ask where you can move without blocking the stop.

Make Boarding Easy For Everyone

Oshima Bus’s FAQ says Suica and PASMO are not accepted, and route-bus payment is cash or PayPay. It also says on-bus exchange is limited to 50 to 500 yen coins and 1,000 yen bills.

Prepare payment before the bus arrives. Keep luggage in one compact group, with the carrier separate enough to lift safely. If you need to ask the driver something, make it short: destination, pet in closed carrier, luggage, and payment.

Tell Lodging Before Boarding

Oshima Tourism Association notes that taxis do not cruise, nighttime service is limited, and most taxis wait at ports or the airport, with phone inquiry recommended. If you have switched from taxi or pickup to bus, your lodging or pickup contact may still be trying to find you.

Send one short update before boarding if battery allows: actual port, bus direction, pet in carrier, luggage amount, and estimated next contact point. Then stop draining battery with repeated messages.

Let Weather Change Your Waiting Position

JMA provides English warnings and advisories, and its forecast information includes weather, winds, coastal ocean waves, temperatures, and precipitation probability. Weather may make a shelter or terminal edge tempting, but do not block the entrance, exit, or bus approach.

If rain, wind, heat, or rough conditions affect your pet or luggage, ask for the right waiting place instead of guessing. A small move to a safer position is better than standing in the path until the bus arrives.
