Short answer
If you fly from Chofu into Oshima Airport and then need a ferry, check the ferry port before you move. Oshima Airport sits between the Motomachi side and the Okata side of the island, while Tokai Kisen’s same-day status tells you whether your ship uses Motomachi Port or Okata Port. The best transfer is not “airport to port”; it is “airport to the port named for my ship today.”
Last checked: August 21, 2026. Flight arrivals, ferry departure ports, operation status, bus schedules, taxi availability, rental-car pickup, taxi fares, weather, and port decisions can change. Always confirm current details on New Central Airservice, Tokai Kisen, UMISORA, Oshima Bus, and official local sources before travel.
Airport arrival basics
New Central Airservice lists Oshima Airport, also called Tokyo Oshima Camellia Airport, at Motomachi Kitanoyama 270, Oshima Town, Tokyo 100-0101, with the Oshima Airport counter phone number 04992-2-1651. UMISORA also describes Oshima Camellia Airport as the air gateway to Oshima.
The Tokyo Sightseeing Accessibility Guide says Oshima Airport is between Motomachi in western Oshima and Okada in northern Oshima. That location is useful, but it also creates a decision: your ferry may depart from either side.
Check the ship port first
Tokai Kisen’s operation-status page warns that Oshima has two arrival/departure ports, Okata and Motomachi, and that outbound and return ports can differ. It lists the same-day Oshima arrival/departure port information phone number as 04992-2-5522.
Use that before choosing a taxi, bus, rental car, or pickup point. If the ship departs Motomachi, your transfer logic is different from a ship departing Okata. If the status is conditional or weather-sensitive, keep extra margin or choose a simpler plan.
Bus, taxi, or rental car
| Option | Official clue | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Bus | New Central says the nearest bus stop, Oshima Airport Entrance, is about a 10-minute walk. The Tokyo guide says the Oshima Bus schedule is determined the evening before use. | Good when the current bus schedule matches your confirmed ship port and departure time. |
| Taxi | New Central says Oshima Airport to Motomachi or Okata districts is about 10 minutes by taxi or bus, but warns there may be no waiting taxis. | Best when prearranged, especially with luggage or a tight ferry connection. |
| Rental car | Tokyo and Oshima tourism sources list rental cars among island transport options. | Useful if you will tour before the ferry, but confirm pickup, drop-off, and the final ship port. |
Taxi fare snapshot
Oshima Tourism Association’s taxi fare guidance checked for this article listed approximate fares from Oshima Airport to both Motomachi Port and Okata Port as 1,700 yen for a medium car and 2,300 yen for a large car. It also notes that traffic conditions may change fares. Treat those as planning estimates, not guaranteed prices.
The same local context matters for baggage. If you are carrying the 5 kg-style light luggage from a Chofu flight, bus or taxi can be simple. If you have bulky luggage, confirm the transfer before assuming a quick airport-to-port hop.
Bus-stop logic
Oshima Bus sightseeing information lists airport-area stops including Oshima Airport Entrance, Oshima Airport Terminal, and Airport North Exit. It also lists Motomachi Port and Okata Port as bus stops. The Tokyo guide says the Oshima Park Line connects Motomachi Port, Okata Port, and Oshima Park.
That means the bus can be practical, but only when the day’s schedule, your aircraft arrival, and your ferry port line up. Do not assume a frequent mainland-style airport shuttle.
Simple transfer sequence
- After booking the Chofu flight, check your planned ferry route and ship time.
- On the travel day, refresh Tokai Kisen’s operation-status page for the confirmed Oshima departure port.
- If unclear, call the same-day Oshima port guidance number: 04992-2-5522.
- Choose bus, taxi, or rental car after the port is known.
- Leave enough margin for baggage, rental-car paperwork, bus timing, and weather changes.
