Start With The Current Port, Not The Bus Stop

Tokai Kisen’s operation-status page asks users to refresh before checking and lists Oshima ship type, port, operation status, and notes. It also says Oshima has two ports, Motomachi and Okada, and that arrival and departure ports may differ. The same-day Oshima port phone number shown there is 04992-2-5522.

For a bus-only recovery, the first question is not “Which bus can I catch?” It is “Which port is this rebooked ferry actually using now?” Izu Oshima Navi explains that Motomachi and Okada are used according to same-day waves and wind, so a route that looks useful on a map can still be wrong if the port has changed.

Keep The Counter Buffer In Front

Tokai Kisen’s boarding-flow page says prepayment vouchers must be exchanged for tickets at the counter on the day of departure, boarding procedures should be completed early, and a reservation may be forfeited if procedures are not completed 15 minutes before departure. Boarding cards are also required.

Bus-only recovery must include walking to the stop, waiting, riding, walking from the arrival stop, ticket or voucher handling, pet-ticket handling, boarding-card completion, restroom or water needs, and the possibility that the bus is late or full. If the math does not protect the counter, ask about rebooking, standby, or waiting rather than racing a fragile connection.

Check The Bus Rules Before Moving

Oshima Bus’s route-bus page links to the current route-bus timetable and map PDFs. At the time checked, the displayed timetable period was July 1, 2026 to September 30, 2026. The same page states that connecting buses are available for early-morning large-ship arrivals around 06:00 and asks travelers to move to the bus stop soon after disembarking.

That early-morning connection note is useful context, but it is not a promise for every rebooked return or same-day standby situation. Use the official timetable, route map, driver guidance, and local staff guidance for the specific port, date, direction, and time you are facing.

Make Pet, Luggage, And Payment Pass Together

Oshima Bus’s FAQ says small pets may be brought only if they are inside a cage. It also says Suica, PASMO, and other IC cards are not accepted; payment is cash or PayPay, and change is limited to 50-500 yen coins and 1,000 yen notes.

Tokai Kisen’s pet page is stricter for the ferry side: pets must be inside a cage or basket no more than 45cm per side, the whole body must remain inside, face and body must not be visible, jet ferries accept only pets that fit, open-top bags are not accepted, and congestion refusal is possible. A bus-only plan should preserve ferry compliance instead of creating a new problem at the counter.

When Bus-Only Is The Wrong Answer

Oshima Tourism Association says taxis do not cruise, night service is very limited, most taxis wait at ports or the airport, and travelers should inquire by phone. That makes a bus-only plan tempting when no taxi is available, but it also means the island transport system has hard limits.

Bus-only is the wrong answer if luggage cannot be handled safely, the pet carrier cannot stay closed and stable, payment is not ready, the route does not match the current port, or the remaining time is too short. In those cases, keep the pet calm, stay where staff can advise you, and ask for the next official option.
