Oshima Ferry Pet Rebooked Departure No-Taxi Recovery Guide
Short answer: If you have rebooked an Oshima ferry departure with a pet but cannot get a taxi, do not keep calling until the counter buffer disappears. Confirm the current Motomachi or Okada port, test whether Oshima Bus can actually work with your pet and luggage, ask staff before moving, and be ready to return to a waiting-base or next-counter plan instead of missing the ferry again.
Last checked: August 25, 2026. Taxi availability, ferry operation status, same-day port choice, bus timetables, pet rules, payment options, rebooked departure handling, weather, and sea conditions can change. Always follow current Tokai Kisen, Oshima Tourism Association, Oshima Bus, taxi-company, terminal, lodging, and local staff guidance.

Accept The No-Taxi Signal Early
Oshima Tourism Association says taxis do not cruise, night service is very limited, most taxis wait at ports or the airport, and travelers should inquire by phone. That means “no taxi right now” is not a small delay after rebooking. It may be the point where your second departure plan begins to fail.
Do one focused retry: state current location, target port, ferry time, pet in a closed carrier, luggage count, and latest safe pickup time. If there is still no confirmed pickup, move to the bus-or-wait decision instead of spending the whole buffer on calls.
Confirm The Port Before Any Backup Move
Tokai Kisen’s operation-status page asks users to refresh before checking and lists Oshima ship type, port, operation status, and notes. It also says Oshima uses both Okada Port and Motomachi Port, and arrival and departure ports may differ. The same-day Oshima port phone number shown there is 04992-2-5522.
Izu Oshima Navi explains that Motomachi and Okada are used according to the day’s waves and wind, so timetable and route planning should account for the current departure port. A no-taxi backup to the wrong port is worse than staying put and asking for the next official step.
Protect The Counter Time Again
Tokai Kisen’s boarding-flow page says a prepayment voucher must be exchanged for a ticket at the counter on the day of departure, boarding procedures should be completed early, and a reservation may be forfeited if procedures are not completed 15 minutes before departure.
For a no-taxi recovery, compare the bus or walking-transfer idea against the counter clock. Include pet ticket, passenger ticket or voucher, boarding card, luggage, carrier handling, and staff guidance. If the backup cannot protect the counter, do not call it a backup.
Use Bus Only If All Conditions Work
Oshima Bus can be a fallback only when the practical details line up. Izu Oshima Navi says latest Oshima Bus timetables should be checked on the Oshima Bus site. Oshima Bus’s FAQ says small pets may ride only inside a cage. It also says Suica, PASMO, and other IC cards are not accepted; cash or PayPay is accepted, and change is limited to 50-500 yen coins and 1,000 yen notes.
Before choosing bus, check pet, luggage, payment, timetable, and port. If luggage is too much, reduce it or ask lodging or staff about holding options. If the pet is stressed, keep the carrier closed and stable rather than trying a crowded transfer that still misses boarding.
Keep The Pet Rules Intact
Tokai Kisen’s pet page says pets must be inside a cage or basket no more than 45cm per side, with the whole body kept inside and the face and body not visible. Jet ferries accept only pets fitting inside that size. It also says pet tickets are purchased at the counter after presenting the passenger ticket and destination, open-top bags cannot be accepted, and pets may be refused during congestion.
A no-taxi moment is not a reason to switch to an easier open bag or carry the pet outside the carrier. Keep water, cleanup supplies, documents, cash, and phone battery ready while the carrier stays compliant.
No-Taxi Recovery Checklist
- Confirm that no taxi pickup is actually available inside the safe pickup window.
- Refresh Tokai Kisen status and confirm Motomachi Port or Okada Port.
- Measure the remaining time against the counter and pet-ticket buffer.
- Check Oshima Bus timetable, pet cage rule, luggage, cash or PayPay, and change needs.
- Ask staff or lodging whether waiting, luggage holding, or another pickup point is better.
- If bus cannot protect the counter, stop moving and ask about the next official option.
- Keep the pet inside a closed compliant carrier until staff instruct otherwise.
