Oshima Ferry Pet Rebooked Departure Move-Again Guide

Short answer: After same-day rebooking or standby on Izu Oshima with a pet, do not leave the waiting base just because the next departure exists. Refresh Tokai Kisen’s current port, protect the counter buffer, keep the pet carrier compliant, confirm taxi or bus timing, and move only when the destination port, documents, luggage, payment, and weather all line up.

Last checked: August 25, 2026. Rebooked departure handling, ferry operation status, Motomachi Port or Okada Port choice, pet acceptance, taxi availability, bus timetables, payment options, weather, and sea conditions can change. Always follow current Tokai Kisen, Oshima Tourism Association, Oshima Bus, taxi-company, terminal, lodging, and local staff guidance.

Confirm The Port One More Time

Tokai Kisen’s operation-status page asks users to refresh before checking and lists Oshima ship type, port, operation status, and notes. It also says Oshima uses both Okada Port and Motomachi Port, and arrival and departure ports may differ. The same-day Oshima port phone number shown there is 04992-2-5522.

Izu Oshima Navi explains why this matters for movement: Motomachi and Okada are used according to the day’s waves and wind, so bus routing and transfer timing depend on the current departure port. A rebooked traveler should treat the port as new information, not as the port remembered from the missed departure.

Set A Leave Time From The Waiting Base

Tokai Kisen’s boarding-flow page says a prepayment voucher must be exchanged for a ticket at the counter on the day of departure, boarding procedures should be completed early, and a reservation may be forfeited if boarding procedures are not completed 15 minutes before departure.

For the second move, calculate backward from the counter, not the ship. Include time for the pet ticket, passenger ticket or voucher, boarding card, luggage, carrier handling, and any staff instruction. If the waiting base is pleasant but cannot protect that buffer, it is no longer the right base.

Reset The Pet And Luggage Before Moving

Tokai Kisen’s pet page says pets must be inside a cage or basket no more than 45cm per side, with the whole body kept inside and the face and body not visible. Jet ferries accept only pets fitting inside that size. It also says travelers should provide pet type, pet count, passenger count, and size, and that pet tickets are purchased at the counter after presenting the passenger ticket and destination. Open-top bags cannot be accepted, and pets may be refused during congestion.

Before leaving, put water, cleanup supplies, towel, ticket records, cash, phone, and charger in one reachable bag. Reduce luggage if possible. A second transfer is usually more stressful than the first because the pet and traveler are already tired.

Choose Taxi Or Bus With A Yes-Or-No Test

Oshima Tourism Association says taxis do not cruise, night service is very limited, most taxis wait at ports or the airport, and travelers should inquire by phone. It also gives approximate fare guidance between Motomachi Port and Okada Port while noting fares vary by traffic conditions. For a taxi, ask: “Can you pick us up here by this time and reach this port with counter time?”

Bus works only if the timetable, pet, luggage, and payment are compatible. Izu Oshima Navi says latest Oshima Bus timetables should be checked on the Oshima Bus site. Oshima Bus’s FAQ says small pets may ride only inside a cage, IC cards such as Suica and PASMO are not accepted, cash or PayPay is accepted, and change is limited to 50-500 yen coins and 1,000 yen notes.

Move-Again Checklist

  1. Refresh Tokai Kisen operation status and confirm Motomachi Port or Okada Port.
  2. Confirm the rebooked departure, standby instruction, or counter guidance.
  3. Set the leave time from the waiting base using the counter deadline and pet-ticket buffer.
  4. Keep the pet in a compliant closed carrier.
  5. Prepare passenger ticket, voucher or reservation number, pet details, luggage count, cash, PayPay, phone battery, and water.
  6. Confirm taxi by phone, or confirm bus timetable, pet cage, luggage, and payment before moving.
  7. Recheck weather and sea conditions before leaving the base.
  8. If timing becomes doubtful again, ask staff before repeating the same failed transfer pattern.
