Oshima Ferry Pet Same-Day Rebooking Waiting Base Guide

Short answer: After same-day rebooking or standby on Izu Oshima with a pet, the next problem is not only the next ferry. It is where to wait without tiring the pet, blocking a terminal, losing the correct port, or missing the counter again. Confirm the next Tokai Kisen port, ask where waiting is permitted, keep the carrier compliant, and choose a base that still lets you move by taxi or bus in time.

Last checked: August 25, 2026. Waiting-space rules, ferry operation status, same-day port choice, pet acceptance, taxi availability, bus timetables, lodging policies, payment options, weather, and sea conditions can change. Always follow current Tokai Kisen, Oshima Tourism Association, Oshima Bus, taxi-company, terminal, lodging, and local staff guidance.

Start With The Next Official Port

Tokai Kisen’s operation-status page asks users to refresh before checking and lists Oshima ship type, port, operation status, and notes. It also notes that Oshima uses both Okada Port and Motomachi Port, and that arrival and departure ports may differ. The same-day Oshima port phone number shown there is 04992-2-5522.

Oshima Tourism Association’s accommodation page makes the same planning point: Okada Port in the north and Motomachi Port in the central area are used according to same-day sea conditions, and the departure port is not known until the day. Do not choose a waiting base until you know which port the next attempt uses, or until you choose a base that can still reach either port.

Do Not Lose The Counter Buffer Again

Tokai Kisen’s boarding-flow page says boarding procedures should be completed early and warns that a reservation may be forfeited if procedures are not completed 15 minutes before departure. It also says a prepayment voucher must be exchanged for a ticket at the counter on the day of departure, and that another departure time requires a new reservation.

Once a new departure, standby plan, or counter instruction exists, write down a second deadline: the time you must leave the waiting base. That deadline should include taxi or bus uncertainty, luggage, pet carrier handling, pet ticket, ticket or voucher work, and terminal movement.

Keep The Pet Base Simple

Tokai Kisen’s pet page says pets must be inside a cage or basket no more than 45cm per side, with the whole body kept inside and the face and body not visible. Jet ferries accept only pets that fit inside that size. It also says pet tickets are purchased at the counter after presenting the passenger ticket and destination, open-top bags cannot be accepted, and pets may be refused during congestion.

A good waiting base lets the carrier stay closed and stable. Keep water, cleanup supplies, towel, documents, cash, phone battery, and luggage in one controlled setup. If the pet needs quiet, ask staff where waiting is appropriate instead of opening the carrier in a busy doorway.

Choose From Four Waiting Bases

  1. Terminal base: Best when the next departure is soon or staff told you to stay nearby. Ask where waiting with luggage and a pet carrier is permitted.
  2. Lodging base: Best when you have hours, need luggage holding, or need a quieter place. Ask the lodging what is allowed before assuming.
  3. Tourism-association help: During office hours, Oshima Tourism Association lists office hours 08:30-17:00 and phone 04992-2-2177. Use it for local context, not as a guarantee of transport.
  4. Pickup-point base: Best when a taxi or bus plan is already confirmed and you can wait at a place the operator or staff can identify clearly.

Check Taxi And Bus Before You Commit

Oshima Tourism Association says taxis do not cruise, night service is very limited, most taxis wait at ports or the airport, and travelers should inquire by phone. If your waiting base depends on a taxi, call before you settle there. Give the current base, next port, pickup time, pet carrier, luggage, and counter deadline.

Bus can work only if the timetable, pet, luggage, and payment fit. Izu Oshima Navi says latest Oshima Bus timetables should be checked on the Oshima Bus site. Oshima Bus’s FAQ says small pets may ride only inside a cage, IC cards such as Suica and PASMO are not accepted, cash or PayPay is accepted, and change is limited to 50-500 yen coins and 1,000 yen notes.

Waiting-Base Checklist

  • Confirm the next Tokai Kisen departure, reservation or standby instruction, and current port.
  • Set a leave-the-base time that protects the counter and pet-ticket buffer.
  • Ask whether waiting with a pet carrier and luggage is permitted at the chosen place.
  • Keep the carrier closed, compliant, shaded or sheltered, and out of foot traffic.
  • Prepare water, cleanup supplies, towel, documents, payment, phone battery, and luggage plan.
  • Confirm taxi or bus before committing to a base far from the next port.
  • Recheck weather, sea conditions, and port status before moving.
