Oshima Ferry Pet Same-Day Rebooking Counter Question Guide

Short answer: If you miss the Tokai Kisen boarding-procedure deadline on Izu Oshima while traveling with a pet, go to the counter with documents and clear questions instead of guessing. Ask whether your reservation has been forfeited, whether another departure requires a new reservation, how the pet ticket should be handled, which port is current, and where you can wait safely with the carrier and luggage.

Last checked: August 25, 2026. Same-day rebooking, standby, refund handling, pet acceptance, counter procedures, port choice, taxi availability, bus timetables, payment options, weather, and sea conditions can change. Always follow current Tokai Kisen, Oshima Tourism Association, Oshima Bus, taxi-company, terminal, lodging, and local staff guidance.

Start With The Official Deadline Reality

Tokai Kisen’s boarding-flow page says a prepayment voucher must be exchanged for a ticket at the counter on the day of departure. It also says boarding procedures should be completed early and warns that a reservation may be forfeited if boarding procedures are not completed 15 minutes before departure.

The same page says that if you use another departure time, you need to make a new reservation. That is the key point for a missed-deadline conversation: do not ask only “Can I still ride?” Ask what status your current reservation has, and what official step is required if you need another departure.

Bring The Right Facts To The Counter

Prepare the reservation number, passenger name, ticket or prepayment voucher, destination, number of passengers, pet type, pet count, carrier size, luggage count, payment method, and phone contact. If the issue began with taxi, bus, wrong port, or weather, explain it in one sentence and then let the counter answer the ticket question.

Keep the pet carrier closed while you speak. Tokai Kisen’s pet page says pets must be inside a cage or basket no more than 45cm per side, with the whole body kept inside and the face and body not visible. It also says pet tickets are purchased at the counter after presenting the passenger ticket and destination, open-top bags cannot be accepted, and pets may be refused during congestion.

Ask These Same-Day Rebooking Questions

  1. Has my current reservation been forfeited because I missed the boarding-procedure deadline?
  2. If I cannot board this departure, do I need a new reservation for another departure time?
  3. Is there another same-day departure with space for passengers and a pet carrier?
  4. Should I buy or cancel the pet ticket now, or wait until the new passenger ticket is confirmed?
  5. Which port should I use now: Motomachi Port or Okada Port?
  6. If the next departure uses another port, what is the latest safe time to leave this terminal?
  7. Where may I wait with a pet carrier and luggage without blocking the counter or entrance?
  8. If same-day travel is not possible, what refund, new reservation, or next-day option should I ask about?

Confirm The Port Again Before Moving

Tokai Kisen’s operation-status page asks users to refresh before checking and lists Oshima ship type, port, operation status, and notes. It also says Oshima uses both Okada Port and Motomachi Port, and that arrival and departure ports may differ. The same-day Oshima port phone number shown there is 04992-2-5522.

Izu Oshima Navi explains the local reason: Motomachi and Okada are used according to same-day waves and wind, so the day’s port affects timetable and route guidance. After a missed deadline, do not immediately chase a bus or taxi until the next official port is clear.

Plan The Waiting Move

Oshima Tourism Association says taxis do not cruise, night service is very limited, most taxis wait at ports or the airport, and travelers should inquire by phone. If the counter tells you to try another same-day departure, call taxi with the exact port, pickup time, pet carrier, luggage count, and new counter deadline.

Bus may be a fallback only if the timetable, pet, luggage, and payment work. Izu Oshima Navi says latest Oshima Bus timetables should be checked on the Oshima Bus site. Oshima Bus’s FAQ says small pets may ride only inside a cage, IC cards such as Suica and PASMO are not accepted, cash or PayPay is accepted, and change is limited to 50-500 yen coins and 1,000 yen notes.

If Same-Day Rebooking Is Not Available

Tokai Kisen’s boarding-flow page notes that service cancellations can occur because of natural disasters, adverse weather, government orders, and similar circumstances, and that no cancellation fee is charged in such cases. It also says advance-ticket holders may request a refund within 30 days at the place of purchase. Your own late arrival is different from an official cancellation, so ask the counter which rule applies rather than assuming.

If same-day travel is not possible, shift from counter pressure to pet stability: find a permitted waiting place, contact lodging, keep water and cleanup supplies ready, confirm the next official port status, and preserve all ticket and reservation records for the next counter conversation.
