Oshima Ferry Pet Rebooked Departure Staff-Help Script Guide

Short answer: After rebooking an Oshima ferry with a pet, ask for help in short, specific questions. Start with the current port and counter deadline, then pet carrier, ticket, baggage, taxi, bus, payment, and phone-battery needs. These scripts are not a way to override rules; they are a way to get the current staff instruction quickly.

Last checked: August 25, 2026. Ferry operation status, port choice, counter handling, pet acceptance, baggage handling, bus operation, taxi availability, payment methods, phone guidance, weather, and sea conditions can change. Always follow current Tokai Kisen, Oshima Bus, taxi-company, terminal, lodging, and local staff guidance.

Ask The Port And Deadline First

Tokai Kisen’s operation-status page says Oshima uses both Motomachi Port and Okada Port, and arrival and departure ports may differ. Tokai Kisen’s contact page lists 04992-2-5522 for same-day Oshima arrival and departure port guidance.

Use this script first: “I have a rebooked ferry with a pet. Which port should I go to now, Motomachi or Okada? What time must I finish the counter procedure?” Then write the answer down, because every taxi, bus, baggage, and payment decision depends on it.

Use A Counter Script

Tokai Kisen’s boarding-flow page says prepayment vouchers must be exchanged at the counter, procedures should be completed early, and a reservation may be forfeited if procedures are not completed 15 minutes before departure. Boarding cards are required.

At the counter or by phone, say: “My reservation was rebooked today. I have one pet in a closed carrier. Do I need a passenger ticket exchange, pet ticket, baggage ticket, or boarding card before boarding?” If time is short, add: “Can this still be completed before the deadline?”

Use A Pet Script

Tokai Kisen’s FAQ says pets must be in a cage or carry-on with sides no longer than 45cm, with face and body parts not visible. Tokai Kisen’s pet page says jet ferries accept only pets that fit in the required carrier size, and open-top bags are not accepted.

Use this script: “My pet is inside a closed carrier. The carrier is about [size]. Is this acceptable for this ship today? Where should I keep the carrier while waiting?” If staff says no, ask for the next official option instead of trying a different bag.

Use Taxi And Bus Scripts

Oshima Tourism Association says taxis do not cruise, night service is very limited, most taxis wait at ports or the airport, and travelers should inquire by phone. Izu Oshima Navi also directs travelers to check bus timetables and phone taxi companies.

Taxi script: “I am at [place]. I need to go to [port] for a ferry at [time]. I have one pet in a closed carrier and [number] bags. Can you pick me up by [time]? What payment can I use?” Bus script: “Can I reach [port] by bus before the ferry counter deadline with a small pet in a cage and this luggage?”

Use Payment And Phone Scripts

Oshima Bus’s FAQ says IC cards such as Suica and PASMO are not accepted, while cash or PayPay is accepted, and change is limited to 50-500 yen coins and 1,000 yen notes. Tokai Kisen’s FAQ says credit cards are accepted at ticket counters but cannot be used on ships.

Payment script: “Should I pay at the counter, on the bus, or later? Can I use card, cash, or PayPay here?” Phone script: “My phone battery is low. Can you help me confirm the port, ferry time, and next step now?” Keep it simple and ask while you still have enough battery to show a reservation screen.

Staff-Help Script Checklist

  1. Ask which port is current: Motomachi or Okada.
  2. Ask the latest safe counter-procedure time.
  3. Ask whether ticket exchange, pet ticket, baggage ticket, or boarding card remains.
  4. Ask whether the pet carrier is acceptable for this ship today.
  5. Ask taxi pickup, payment, pet, luggage, and latest pickup time in one call.
  6. Ask bus timing, pet cage rule, luggage, cash, and PayPay before moving.
  7. Ask staff early if your phone battery, payment, or language confidence is failing.
